To perform any work in the City Right-of-Way (ROW), such as removing or replacing a sidewalk or a driveway approach, a property owner or their contractor must first obtain an encroachment permit prior to starting work.
How to Apply:
Preferred: Email your application to the Permit Technician, or call (650) 652-2706
Or in person at the Engineering Division at City Hall
Permit Processing Schedule:
Mondays and Fridays: Permit intake only (no processing on these days)
Tuesdays through Thursdays: Applications are reviewed and processed from 9:00am to 4:30pm.
Costs Involved:
A non-refundable encroachment permit fee is required.
A refundable security deposit is also required and will be returned if the work passes City inspection, per City standards and specifications.
