To protect the City's investment in streets, the City places no-permitted work (moratorium) on recently sealed, overlayed, constructed, or re-constructed streets prohibiting trenching or excavation for a period of up to three to five years. Emergency work may be waived or exempt on a case-by-case basis. If you are planning to do work that may require street construction/trenching, please check to see if there is an Excavation Moratorium for that street.
Work that must be performed on a street under the moratorium may have more extensive repaving/rehabilitation requirements than outlined in the City's Standards at the discretion of Public Works Engineering.
