PUBLIC WORKS AND ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is comprised of three main divisions: Administration and Engineering, Environmental Programs, and Utilities and Operations

Together, these divisions provide essential services for the community, including infrastructure maintenance, water services, safe roads and sidewalks, street sweeping, storm drainage improvements, sewer collection systems, high-quality drinking water, parks maintenance, facilities maintenance, wastewater treatment, and traffic safety efforts.

Permit Services

The Public Works Department processes a variety of permits to support safe construction and maintenance activities in Millbrae. 

Please review the latest guidance below:

  • Encroachment Permits
    New encroachment permit applications can be submitted via email (preferred) or in person during Permit Counter Hours: between 9:00am to 12:00pm. Inspection services are available by appointment between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. To schedule an inspection, call 650-259-2380.
  • Parking Permits
    Parking permits for FY 2025-26 will expire on June 30, 2026. New or renewal application options include: 
    • Mail-in applications with supporting documents (allow approximately five business days for processing)
    • In-person processing from 9:00am to 4:00pm

  • Tree Permits
    The preservation and maintenance of Millbrae's trees are a shared responsibility. Our office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
  • Tree Removal Permits may be submitted to the Community Development Department and are subject to a fee. Please refer to our Tree Permits page for more information on the application process.
