Green Bins for Businesses

The Green Bins for Businesses program provides eligible businesses in the City of Millbrae a free indoor three-stream waste sorting station. This initiative supports compliance with California’s mandatory recycling and organic waste law (SB 1383), and aims to promote more sustainable waste practices citywide. 

Eligible businesses will receive, at no cost a set of three indoor color-coded and labeled waste bins (organics, trash, recycling) and can choose from two bin size options: 10-gallon, or 22-gallon (see options at end of page).

Businesses that meet the following criteria are eligible: 

1. Hold an active Millbrae Business License 
2. Open to the public and provide customer-facing waste bins

Download, fill out, and submit the application to environment@ci.millbrae.ca.us  You may also apply in-person at Millbrae City Hall Public Works Counter, 621 Magnolia Ave.

The application will ask for a copy of their active Millbrae Business License in order to apply.

Staff will reach out to notify you that they have received and accepted your application, and to ask any follow-up questions.

Businesses will have until November 1, 2025 to sign up for the program. After the sign-up closes, the City will place a bulk order for all requested sorting stations. Bins will be made available for pickup at City Hall approximately 6–8 weeks after the order is placed.

Environmental Programs was awarded a CalRecycle SB1383 Local Assistance Grant (OWR4) in the amount of $75,000.00. Up to $15,000.00 of this award is budgeted to support the “Green Bins for Businesses Program”. There is no additional cost to the City.
