In preparation for Flooding

• Pick up sandbags from Millbrae and Palm Ave.
• Do not drive through flooded roadway, just 6 inches of water can cause you to lose control according to the DMV.
• Know your evacuation routes

In preparation for Power Outages

• Charge your devices
• Keep flashlights, other battery operated lights, and backup batteries in a central location so they are easy to find in the dark
• Keep frozen bags of water in your refrigerator, and keep your refrigerator closed to retain cold air and prevent food from spoiling
• Know how to manually open your garage door
• Check on your elderly or vulnerable neighbors to ensure they are prepared

In preparation for High Winds

• Firmly secure all outdoor furniture including your garbage bins (lay your can on its side, store in your garage, or secure it to your fence with a bungee cord)
• Bring in or secure Holiday Decorations (especially inflatable), potted plants and any other loose items
• Lay basketball hoops on the ground without blocking the sidewalk or roadway
• If your house is under construction, ensure your contractors have secured your porta potty 
• Trim any tree branches near your house

The City of Millbrae is proud to announce that three of its public works projects have been recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Silicon Valley Chapter as part of the 2025 Project of the Year Awards program. These honors highlight the City’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and delivering high-quality infrastructure improvements that benefit the entire community.

The Marina Vista Park Renovation Project has been awarded the 2025 Project of the Year in the Parks category. This transformative effort transformed an ordinary park into a vibrant, multi-use space featuring a fusion of soccer and basketball facilities, a custom play area designed by SPEC (Specified Play Equipment Co.), shaded picnic areas, and eco-friendly landscaping. The project was completed on time thanks to strong community engagement, strategic planning, and environmentally conscious design.

The Nearshore Outfall Project has been awarded the 2025 Project of the Year in the Utilities category, recognizing the City’s efforts to improve essential infrastructure while prioritizing environmental protection. The project strengthened the City’s wastewater discharge system, employing innovative engineering solutions to enhance performance, safety, and sustainability.

Additionally, the Drought-Tolerant Landscaping Project received an Honor Award in the Sustainable/Green category. This project reflects Millbrae’s dedication to water conservation and climate resilience by replacing traditional landscaping with low-maintenance, water-wise plantings that promote both beauty and biodiversity.

“We are honored to be recognized across multiple categories by APWA Silicon Valley,” said City Manager Tom Williams, “These awards reflect the hard work of our staff, the vision of our City leadership, and the strong partnerships that helped bring each of these projects to life.”

City representatives were formally recognized at the APWA Silicon Valley Chapter Luncheon on May 21, 2025. These awards serve as a testament to Millbrae’s leadership in sustainable and community-driven public works.

Curious about your water consumption or why your water bill is high? Millbrae and BAWSCA are offering residents the Residential Self-Audit Tool to help you understand how much water you use. The tool kit includes a step-by-step guide to perform the indoor survey as well as free water conservation items. 

 The Residential Self-Audit Tool checks for:

• sink/shower flow rate
• meter leak test
• toilet leak test
• general indoor leak information

Use the tool's online step-by-step guide for immediate help or complete the online request form for a free conservation kit (LINK).

Millbrae and BAWSCA administer a rebate program for the replacement of turf with water-efficient landscaping. Participation in the program provides BAWSCA members a way to offer their customers an incentive to reduce their outdoor water use. 

The program will offer a rebate to customers of $2.00 per square foot of turf replaced.

Eligible applicants must have a lawn that is currently being irrigated by a sprinkler system. A minimum of 200 sq. ft. of lawn must be converted. 

Lawn Be Gone Program (LINK)

Millbrae and BAWSCA are offering a rebate for the purchase and installation of irrigation equipment to enhance irrigation efficiency and to reduce water use. 

The program provides rebates of up to $5 for high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles, up to $10 for spray bodies with pressure regulation, and up to $30 for larger rotors. Millbrae will provide a rebate of up to $30 per piece of irrigation equipment. The program will run from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.

Pre-qualification is required if the total rebate amount is to exceed $1,000. To qualify, applicants must purchase eligible hardware using the qualifying product list.
