The Planning Division’s primary role is the review of development projects for compliance with the Millbrae General Plan, Millbrae Station Area Specific Plan, Zoning Ordinance, design guidelines, and related policies and procedures. In addition, the Division takes the lead in state-mandated environmental review on all development applications.

Planning Division staff is the liaison between applicants and other City departments and divisions and provides technical assistance and guidance to the Millbrae Planning Commission. Division staff also reviews sign applications, Home Occupation Permits, Business Licenses, and other "over-the-counter" permits, performs plan checks, conducts site inspections, undertakes special projects and studies, and responds to a wide range of planning and development related inquiries. 

Planning counter walk-in hours for the Planning Division are Monday - Friday from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. Appointments can be scheduled between 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, call 650-259-2341.  After initial consultation at the planning counter, complete project applications requiring Planning Commission approval may be submitted Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8:30 am to 12:00 noon.
