Millbrae Participates in Silver Dragon XI Deployment Exercise
On Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Millbrae CERT, LEND MURS Radio, Millbrae Amateur Radio Club (MARC), and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Volunteers in Policing (SVIP) will again participate in the San Mateo County Health Department's deployment exercise “Silver Dragon XI.”
During the exercise, trained emergency preparedness volunteers will deploy to service for “Operation Zika," going door-to-door delivering public health information in areas of Millbrae most vulnerable for Zika.
Volunteer teams will walk the Bayside Manor, Silva Ranch, Green Hills, Meadow Glen neighborhoods, distributing educational literature (instead of medicine) and searching for standing water.
Approximately 1,000-1,500 households in Millbrae will be reached.
Volunteers will be easily identifiable by their various emergency response uniforms.
During the exercise deployment readiness, distribution methods, and times to accomplish deliveries will be tracked and assessed.
The County's Health Department will test communications using satellite phones, handheld radios and HAM radios, and the Office of Emergency Services will assess its notification and resource requesting capabilities.
To add an additional element of reality the exercise, planners will add additional inserts that provide realistic, simulated and decision-making challenges to the team members.
This annual exercise is conducted in partnerships with:
San Mateo County Health Department,
San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services,
San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office,
San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control, and
participating local fire and police agencies throughout San Mateo County.
