Operation: Clean Sweep 2016

Post Date:06/24/2016 9:10 AM

Dear Neighbor,

The City of Millbrae proudly introduces Operation: Clean Sweep 2016, our first annual month-long campaign to improve the cleanliness and appearance of our vibrant city center.

As a merchant and/or property owner I'm sure you're aware of the draw and appeal our thriving downtown offers our community. Whether it's a midday walk during the week or a weekend shopping and dining experience, we all benefit both aesthetically and financially by keeping the center of our community clean, attractive, and inviting.

Operation: Clean Sweep 2016 is a direct response to the overwhelming feedback the city has received from business owners and residents regarding the importance of a clean, visually appealing downtown. We are encouraging all business owners to do their part in keeping our downtown as appealing as possible. During the next several weeks Operation: Clean Sweep 2016 communications will remind you of the importance of keeping your property clean and litter-free, culminating with an August 7, 2016 presentation of the Platinum Cleanliness Award to the property owner/business showing the greatest improvement. If we all pitch-in to keep our area clean and beautiful, collectively we can make downtown inviting, vibrant, and a destination the entire community can be proud of.

As you know, the city has several anti-littering ordinances which include provisions for cigarette butts. Help us remind everyone that throwing cigarette butts on the street is littering! Cigarette butts are both unattractive and unhealthy. We need to lead by example—by encouraging proper disposal of all litter, especially cigarette butts, in designated receptacles. Remind your employees and patrons that we're all working to achieve a cleaner, better City of Millbrae.

Finally, please share this letter with your parent organization or headquarters to encourage their support of our efforts. Whether asking for additional cleaning supplies, a fraction of an hour for your employees to focus on cleaning, or additional trash receptacles and signage, each contribution you and your organization make will create a healthier, more sustainable, and enjoyable Millbrae for all.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Millbrae City Council
