Since the City Council enacted the Water Shortage Contingency Plan and adopted other drought regulations on September 9, 2014, water use declined by 18% comparing September 2013 to September 2014. This equals nearly 15 million gallons of water! Strategic outreach methods are being used to get the message out on conserving water. Thanks to the diligent efforts by our community water use is declining.
The City also works closely with the Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency to track local and regional water savings for achieving a total 10% water use reduction by the end of the year. Comparing 2013 and 2014 water use for the months of February (after the drought was declared) through September, Millbrae’s water use declined by nearly 10%, which is a reduction of nearly 54 million gallons of water!
It is by working together with our community that the City is able to conserve water and achieve our goals to reduce water and ensure an adequate water supply. Together we are making a difference!
