Millbrae Experiences Multiple Water Main Breaks
Beginning late Thursday night and into early Friday morning, the City of Millbrae experienced four separate water main breaks. The first break occurred at 11:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 in the vicinity of Camino Alto and Silva Court. A second water main break occurred at 1:20 a.m. this morning near the intersection of Loyola Drive and Murchison Avenue. A third break occurred at 4:00 a.m. near the intersection of Helen and Geraldine Drives. A fourth break also occurred at about 4:00 a.m. near the intersection of Larkspur and Ridgewood Drives. A fifth break occurred at on Millbrae Avenue at Minorca Way at 6:00 a.m.
Approximately 1000 homes were initially affected by these breaks. City public work crews are actively working to restore service to all affected areas. The break at Loyola and Murchison has been repaired as of 6:30 a.m., restoring service to about 900 customers.
Traffic impacts are localized to the City of Millbrae. While repairs are being made the following streets have been closed to through traffic: Lomita Avenue between Ridgewood Drive and Bayview Drive, Helen Drive between Tioga Drive and Christine Lane, and Camino Alto at Silva Court.
At this time, Millbrae Department of Public Works has not yet determined the cause of the breaks, but it is working with adjacent agencies and cities to eliminate possible causes. Repairs are ongoing, no estimate for completion has been determined.
