Disc Golf Demo Day - Saturday, Feb. 1st
On Saturday, February 1, Millbrae Recreation and the Millbrae Rotary Club will host a Disc Golf Demo Day. Last year, the Millbrae Rotary Club and the City of Millbrae teamed up to analyze an appropriate space along the Spur Trail for a potential disc golf course with the help of veteran disc golf course designer, Leonard Muise.
Muise identified the best location taking into account multiple suitability factors. From a community perspective, these factors include safety, environment, and integration (how well does disc golf fit in with existing experiences). From a player perspective, these factors include skill match (level of challenge for likely participants), flight variety, visual appeal, access, weather, safety, and security. From a client perspective, these factors include installation cost and effort, maintenance cost and effort, and liability. Out of the entire length of the Spur Trail, the best location was determined to be east of Mosta Grove Park extending to the area adjacent to Mills High School’s baseball field.
Before moving forward at this proposed location, the City would like to invite local residents out to understand the positive aspects of disc golf and have fun learning to play during the Disc Golf Demo Day. The event will start at 10 a.m. at Mosta Grove Park, and go until 12 p.m.
Few recreational activities offer the high benefit-to-cost ratio of disc golf, both for recreation departments and citizens of all ages and backgrounds. Disc golf has low capital and maintenance costs, has minimal liability issues, is environmentally sound, is played year-round in all climates and is enjoyed immediately even by beginners of all ages. This site was also chosen due to the possibility of expanding intergenerational activities in Millbrae. With the location being near Mills High School as well as the Magnolia of Millbrae, this course could provide additional opportunities to engage in passive and active recreation for all ages and ability levels.
We hope to see you there!
