This holiday season, remember to keep your plumbing and public sewers free from blockages and overflows by properly disposing of fats, oils and grease.
Never pour fats, oil and grease down sinks or toilets. Here are some tips to help properly dispose of F.O.G.
- Pour cooled fats, oil and grease into an empty milk carton or other sturdy paper container and place in the green organics cart if available, or into the garbage.
- Soak up remaining grease with a paper towel and dispose of in your organics cart, or into the garbage.
- Before you wash dishes, scrape fats, oil and grease in with food scraps and into the organics cart, or with garbage.
- If you have large amounts of cooking oil, bring it to SSF Scavenger’s facility.
Pick up a free grease kit that includes a tin can, disposal bag, scraper, and information flyer at the City Hall Public Works Counter – Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
