Millbrae City Council Meeting Recap for September 24, 2019
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the Millbrae City Council presented several commendations to the winners of the Bike Rodeo Art Contest. Winners of the art contest are: Abigail Lesmana, Aden Fang, Daniel Chen, Logan Duong, Meleane Ulugonua, Nicolas Lam, Sherry Du, and Yuka Irya. Their works of art demonstrated the importance of wearing a helmet and situational awareness when riding a bike. Congratulations to all the winners.
October was proclaimed Fire Prevention Month. Fire Prevention Month is important because it reminds us to take the steps to protect our homes and families.
A proclamation was made designating the week of November 17 - 23, 2019, as United Against Hate Week. The week-long campaign reminds us that rhetoric of divisiveness in our nation has caused the outright demonstration of hate in the form of violence and a disregard for basic civility. The City of Millbrae stands with all its residents, and those who work here, to celebrate its diversity and promote a community of inclusion.
During the Agenda Overview/Staff Briefing, it was noted that there are two vacancies on the Millbrae Cultural Arts Committee. Those interested in applying for the positions can contact the City Clerk at (650) 259-2414, or by email at email@example.com.
There were no items on the Consent Calendar.
Under Existing Business, the City Council unanimously approved, on a 5-0 vote, Item 5 - approve the use of the design build delivery method for the Millbrae Recreation Center Project, and authorize the issuance of a request for proposals (RFP) for construction management / project management services to support the project.
Under New Business, the City Council discussed Item 6 - provide guidance and recommendations for the resolutions being considered at the 2019 League of California Cities Annual Conference. The consensus of the Council was to support both resolutions.
Under New Business, the City Council received an informational report on the disc golf course concept (Item 7).
