Green Business Certification for City Hall
City Hall was recently re-certified as a Green Business and re-certification is underway for the Library. Millbrae City Hall was the first city facility in San Mateo County and the Library was the second one in the County to be certified as Green Businesses in 2008.
The Green Business Program promotes businesses and government agencies that operate in a more environmentally sound way in the areas of waste, energy, water, pollution prevention, and air quality. The benefits of being a Green Business include saving money and resources by reducing the amount of energy and water used, reducing garbage and increasing recycling; reducing the impact on climate change; creating a healthy workplace; and strengthening the bottom line through operating efficiencies and innovations.
Examples of the City’s initiatives include using non-toxic custodial cleaning products, using 100% post-consumer recycled paper, conserving water by using a water efficient irrigation system, recycling and composting, using energy efficient lighting, and using 100% renewable energy through Peninsula Clean Energy Program.
The other certified businesses in Millbrae include Paper Culture, Dela Rama Dental Care, Taste Catering and Grace Yoga. The two fire stations are also in process of being certified along with the other Central County Fire stations.
