Letter to Uber and Lyft from Mayor Wayne Lee and Mayor Donna Colson
Due to the relocation of TNC (Transportation Network Companies) staging parking lots to the "Feinstein View Lot" near Millbrae and recent changes at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to accommodate the increase of ride share services, the cities of Burlingame and Millbrae have been notably and severely impacted by traffic congestion along Millbrae Avenue, especially between US101 ramps at Millbrae Avenue and Old Bayshore Highway.
These impacts cause unacceptable delays (15-30 minutes) to Hwy 101 access and egress, as well as access to the Millbrae Public Works Corporation Yard, impacting City operations, personal lives and the movement of commercial activities and goods in both Millbrae and Burlingame. In the event of emergency, Millbrae Public Works staff will not be able to respond in a timely fashion. This is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately.
Our municipalities request that your company work with SFO and local agencies to alleviate the traffic congestion without shifting congestion to adjacent cities to SFO.
Our municipalities will be working with SFO and our state officials to determine and create traffic reduction, traffic management, and impact fees to address the exponential increase of traffic due to TNCs.
We request that you meet with our staff to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
We look forward to working with you. Please contact Tom Williams, Millbrae City Manager at 650-259-2373 to schedule a meeting.
Wayne J. Lee
Mayor, City of Millbrae
