City Council Meeting Recap for March 12, 2019
On Tuesday, March 12, the Millbrae City Council hosted its first meeting of the month.
Following the Pledge, the Millbrae City Council honored Greek Independence Day and International Women’s Day with proclamations from the City. The Mills High School Drama Club announced their production of Beauty and the Beast, and the City Council honored them for their work to bring performing arts to the City. Mayor Wayne Lee honored the “Comfort Women” Justice Coalition and the Jin Duck and Kyung Sik Kim Foundation with a proclamation to remember and honor the victims of World War II sex slavery, euphemistically called “comfort women.”
Following the City Council’s presentation of proclamations, they moved into existing business and unanimously approved, by a 5-0 vote, Item 7 - Recommendations of art work submitted by the Millbrae Cultural Arts Advisory Committee for utility box painting. Two utility boxes will be painted this Spring by students from Taylor Middle School and St. Dunstan’s.
The City Council received an informational update from the City’s Finance Director about changes to future utility bills. The new utility bill will include information on the specific customer’s rate type, meter, consumption history, and account activity. This new design will give residents more information by showing them how much they are using and why they are being charged a specific amount. A mailer will be sent out later this month explaining the layout of the new bill and how to read it.
Following comments from the public, the City Council unanimously approved, by a 5-0 vote, the following consent items:
Item 5 – Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute an amendment to the professional services agreement with CSG Consultants for contract engineering, plan check, building, and related services to increase the total contract cost by $200,000, from $750,000 to $950,000, and extend the agreement through June 30, 2019.
Item 6 – Quarterly investments schedule for the second quarter of fiscal year 2018 – 2019.
