City Council Meeting Recap for February 26, 2019
On Tuesday, February 26, the Millbrae City Council hosted its second meeting of the month.
Thank you to Marlene McBride for leading the meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Following the Pledge, the Millbrae City Council received an informational update from the Millbrae Senior Advisory Committee. The Millbrae Senior Advisory Committee invites you to a free senior scam workshop. Attendees will learn simple and practical steps to help avoid becoming a victim of scams, especially those that target senior citizens. This event will take place on Friday, March 8 ,2019, at the Millbrae Community Center (623 Magnolia Ave.), and begins at 10:30 a.m.
During the first half of the meeting, the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce honored a host of organizations and individuals during its 2018 Business Awards presentation.
The City of Millbrae was presented with the Downtown Beautification Award.
Providence Credit Union, One Martial Arts and South San Francisco Scavenger Company were presented with the Community Partners Award.
The Westin San Francisco Airport was presented with the Distinction in Tourism Award.
The Mills High School Interact Club was presented with the Chamber Excellence Award.
James Barrett was presented with the Chamber President’s Award.
Lai Lai Restaurant was presented with the Millbrae Restaurant of the Year Award.
The Millbrae Business of the Year Award was presented to Vernon Bruce of Millbrae Lock.
Following the Business Awards presentation, the City Council unanimously approved, by a 5-0 vote, the following consent items:
Item 5 - Resolution awarding a construction contract to Golden Bay Construction, Inc. in the amount of $357,162 for the Magnolia Avenue and Richmond Drive Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project, establishing a project contingency of $53,000, approving a professional services agreement with TJKM in the amount of $20,000 for construction engineering, construction management, and inspection services.
Item 6 - Adopt resolution awarding a contract to Valley Power Systems North, Inc. in the amount of $142,730 for the Hillcrest generator: service and installation project; establishing a project contingency of $21,000.
Under Existing Business, the City Council received an informational report on the Recreation Center Restoration Project (Item 7); by motion, affirm the City Council’s consensus from the earlier study session: preferred design option for the Recreation Center building and direction for completion of the Conceptual Design Final Report. By a 3-2 vote, the City Council approved the Park Lanterns Design as the preferred design option for the Millbrae Recreation Center, and approved Group 4 Architecture to move forward in developing a final conceptual design report.
Under New Business, the City Council unanimously approved Item 8 - Millbrae Community Garden Design and Budget Plan.
