New BART Service to SFO Offers More Options for Peninsula Travelers

Post Date:02/20/2019 1:23 PM

Last week, after a year of negotiations with representatives from the City of Millbrae and SFO, BART has agreed to renew the direct and frequent link between SFO and the Millbrae BART Station. As of Monday, February 11th, BART now operates a weekday line directly to SFO from Millbrae. The new service will begin at 6:30 a.m. and go until 9 p.m. every 30 minutes.

“This new direct line will give travelers more access to SFO from, not just Millbrae, but all of San Mateo County, the Silicon Valley, and San Francisco,” said Millbrae Councilwoman Gina Papan. “The Millbrae Station is the largest inter-model center west of the Mississippi. This connection will better accommodate SFO’s 43,000 employees and the 57 million travelers that pass through the airport each year. Reestablishing the regularity of this connection has been long overdue and will truly provide greater convenience for everyone considering public transportation to and from SFO.”

In conjunction with the new BART direct line, SamTrans will continue to operate their Route SFO bus service every 30 minutes. With the two services, travelers will wait no more than 15 minutes to get a ride to SFO. Route SFO runs direct service from the Millbrae Transit Center (Caltrain and BART) to SFO terminal stops International Courtyard A, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and International Courtyard G.

“We want to thank BART, SamTrans, and SFO for making this happen,” said Millbrae City Manager Tom Williams. “Many people have worked on this project for a long time now. The joint effort will provide greater accessibility to the entire Bay Area and will make SFO as accessible to Millbrae and the Peninsula as Oakland is to its airport.”
