Text 911 for Help
If you live in San Mateo County, you can now text emergency requests and notifications to local law enforcement and fire response agencies using cellular text messaging.
San Mateo County rolled out the new technology to receive and respond to 911 requests for service using cellular text messaging, allow people who need help, but are not in a position to speak, request help from 911 dispatchers.
When using the system, dispatchers suggests following these guidelines when possible:
- Provide the exact location of the emergency
- Be concise in telling dispatchers what the emergency is
- Do not use abbreviations, emojis or slang
- Only text 911 when you are unable to speak
This is just one additional tool the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and Central County Fire are using to better serve and protect Millbrae.
