Millbrae 2018 Man, Woman and Student of the Year

Post Date:10/16/2018 5:59 PM

For 46 years, Millbrae has celebrated the work and accomplishments of local residents that have devoted their lives to uplifting our community. On Friday, the City of Millbrae and Millbrae Chamber of Commerce will continue this tradition during the 2018 Millbrae Man, Woman and Student of the Year awards ceremony.

Since 1975, Stevan “Steve” Luzaich has actively worked to make Millbrae a truly great place to live for all of our residents. For 36 years, Steve has been an active member of the Millbrae Lion’s Club. From pancake breakfasts to crab feeds, Steve has participated in every Lion’s Club fundraising event, helping provide funding for local youth and senior programs. Steve’s biggest contribution comes to the City as the Lion’s Club representative to the City’s Youth in Government Committee where, for the past 21 years, he has helped introduce Millbrae’s youth to the inner working of local government. Stevan “Steve” Luzaich is Millbrae’s 2018 Man of the Year.

Deirdri Gladwin has spent the past 34 years as an avid volunteer and youth advocate in Millbrae. In 1984, Deirdri began her work as a volunteer, serving on the Meadows PTA Board when her daughter started attending Meadows Elementary School. Since then, she has served in numerous roles on local PTA boards, been an active member in the Millbrae Rotary Club, and acted as a true advocate for children, helping found the Mills Drama Guild. In 2007, Deirdri joined with six other parents to found the Millbrae Education Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for programs local schools could not otherwise afford. Deirdri Gladwin is Millbrae’s 2018 Woman of the Year.

Mills High School senior Stephanie Wong is a model student we all can be proud of. Last Spring, Stephanie organized San Mateo March for Our Lives walk to honor the 17 lives lost in the Parkland shooting and address the issue of gun violence in our community. Stephanie’s work in community health goes beyond that. Since 2016, she has served as an officer on the American Red Cross Executive Board, helping lead efforts to engage local residents in health awareness and organizing local blood drives. Stephanie Wong is Millbrae’s 2018 Student of the Year.

Congratulations Steve Luzaich, Deirdri Gladwin and Stephanie Wong on being honored as this year’s Millbrae man, woman and student of the year. Your work and dedication to our community goes above and beyond, and this recognition is more than deserved for all you do for us.
