This year's International ShakeOut Day is October 19, when millions of people worldwide will participate in earthquake drills at work, school, or home! At 10:19 am (local time) on 10/19, you can join millions of people across California practicing earthquake safety. While we encourage you to participate with everyone, you can register your ShakeOut drill for any day of the year, and drill at a time of your choice. The ShakeOut is our chance to practice how to protect ourselves and for everyone to become prepared. Why is a “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” drill important? To respond quickly, you must practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong shaking knocks you down or something falls on you. If you live in or travel to areas that could be impacted by an earthquake, preparation is vital, as these events can strike suddenly, at any time, with little warning. Visit My Hazards to see if you live, work or play in an area prone to earthquakes and other hazards. EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS AND SAFETY VIDEO SERIES Learn how you can stay safe from shaking in a variety of situations. (YouTube, captions in English, Spanish, and French) Audio and Video "Drill Broadcast" recordings (in English and Spanish) have been created to provide instructions during your drill.
