|The Millbrae Fire Department responds to roughly 1600 medical calls per year|
The Millbrae Fire Department responds to roughly 1600 medical calls per year. In November of 1995, our Fire Department became one of the first cities in the county to begin Paramedic services or Advanced Life Support on both of their Engine Companies.
Currently the Fire Department is part of a joint powers agreement with other San Mateo County Fire Departments. Each department is required to supply at least one paramedic on every engine company. This creates boundery drops where the closest engine company responds to an emergency. Prior to this service, all personnel responded as certified EMT's and provided Basic Life Support. Approximately 20% of all EMS calls require ALS Services. This means that medications must be administered intravenously or through someother invasive procedure to be categorized as ALS calls.
The Millbrae Fire Department EMS Division is staffed by 12 State Certified Paramedics.
