General Municipal Election
The Millbrae City Council has called a General Municipal Election for November 3, 2015. In this election, the Council seats currently held by Mayor Gottschalk and Councilmembers Colapietro and Lee will be voted upon. Councilmember Colapietro has reached the term limit for her seat, meaning that she ineligible for re-election this November. Mayor Gottschalk and Councilmember Lee are eligible for e-election to their current seat.
The nomination period for interested candidates opens on Monday, July 13th and closes precisely at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7th. Anyone seeking a City-elected office must be a registered voter with residency in the City of Millbrae. In order to declare your candidacy, you must obtain and circulate an official Nomination Paper. The Nomination Paper is issued through the Office of the City Clerk at City Hall, 621 Magnolia Avenue, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Each candidate will be required to obtain no less than 20 and no more than 30 validated signatures on their nomination petition. The San Mateo County Elections Office validates petition signatures. Only currently registered Millbrae voters will be counted as valid signatures. It is strongly encouraged that a potential candidate obtains more than 20 signatures to ensure that your nomination petition is not rejected due to an inadequate number of validated signatures.
Each candidate will be required to pay a fee of $25 for filing the nomination paper, and a pro-rated estimated cost of $273.00, which is determined by the County Elections Office, for the expense of handling and publishing the candidate’s statement of education and qualifications in the Voters Sample Ballot and Information Pamphlet. The total amount due at the time of filing your Nomination Paper is $298.00. A list of qualified candidates and their contact information will be posted on this website at the close of the nomination period.
If you are interested in running for City Council, please contact Angela Louis, City Clerk, at 650-259-2333, or email at, email@example.com to schedule an appointment for picking up your Nomination Paper. At that time, the City Clerk will provide you with all the necessary information and review with you the additional required forms for candidate filings. This process takes about one hour.
The County Elections Division has made available a Candidate’s Guide that can be downloaded from their website at www.shapethefuture.org.
