Electric Vehicle Ordinance Now In Effect
As of March 16, 2017, the Electric Vehicle Parking Ordinance adopted at the February 14th City Council meeting is in effect.
Electric Vehicles (EVs) may park up to two hours in any EV charging station, while non-electric vehicles may not park in a charging station for any amount of time. Additionally, if an EV is in the station, it must be plugged in while parked.
Pursuant to California Vehicle Code 22511.5(3), an EV with a disabled placard cannot park in an EV spot for more than two hours, as EV charging stations are “zones reserved for special types of vehicles” and the right to park for unlimited periods of time does not apply. Secondly, a non-electric vehicle with a disabled placard cannot park in an EV spot at all for the same reason.
These parking restrictions will be enforced uniformly.
